Keeping track of your family’s healthcare needs can be immensely challenging – especially amidst ongoing changes in programs and services at both the state and federal level. With talk of funding cuts, policy changes, and program eliminations all over the news and filling our feeds, it may feel impossible to keep track of everything that is happening and how it may affect your family and the services you rely on.
Both the 2026-2027 NH State Budget and the recently passed federal reconciliation bill (H.R.1) make significant changes to healthcare access and affordability for families, to be implemented over the new few years. These changes include work reporting requirements and increased cost-sharing for most enrollees on Medicaid Expansion plans, restrictions on family planning services, the end of ACA premium tax credits, and more. On top of these changes, the ongoing government shutdown is impacting access to federal assistance programs such as SNAP, and may have additional impacts as the shutdown continues.
As these changes begin to be implemented in New Hampshire and throughout the country, it is important for families to stay up to date on how their services may be impacted and any new eligibility requirements to prevent any disruptions. Though these policies will be implemented over multiple years, getting your family organized early and finding answers to your questions now will ensure a smooth transition.
Fortunately, there are many resources throughout the state to help you navigate and prepare for these changes and any that may come in the future.
Many recent policy changes will impact individuals and families enrolled in New Hampshire Medicaid. Notices about changes to coverage and eligibility for current Medicaid enrollees are likely to come from NH DHHS in the weeks and months prior to implementation. It is crucial to make sure your information is up to date and to keep an eye on the NH DHHS website and social media to stay informed.
If you have questions about your Medicaid coverage, reach out to the DHHS Customer Service Center toll-free at 1-844-ASK-DHHS (1-844-275-3447), Monday through Friday, 8am – 4pm.
